Worcester July News

Again people have managed to get out and about with their cars so it seems only fitting that their trips should get a mention in despatches. A few of us managed to get over to Wroxall Abbey for the Pre 1940 Triumph Club picnic - it was nice to see another MG on the field so that made two of us at a Triumph do! The weather managed to hold off for most of the time, so after looking around the 300(ish) cars that made it over for the day we settled down on our chequered rug and enjoyed ham sandwiches, boiled eggs and lashings of ginger beer - well five of us did at any rate. It was fabulous to see the event so well supported and hopefully it’ll be run again next year.
Another event that was well attended was the local Wings and Wheels weekend at Bidford Gliding Club. For those of us that did Roger’s Drive It Day trip it was a chance to see the Auster Club planes that didn’t make it to Shobden Airfield for their club weekend due to the appalling weather. Thankfully the May Bank Holiday weekend was much better and we actually had a chance to look around the old crates whilst they were parked up - I can’t believe that people actually go up in them voluntarily and some even pay to do so! The highlight of the day for most people was the Battle of Britain Memorial flight which this year was done by a Dakota and he gave the crowd exactly what they wanted - three fly pasts complete with most of the crew hanging out the back door waving madly at us lot on the ground! It was also quite strange to watch the planes taxi to the fuel pump, pop the nozzle into the tank and fill up as you would your car, I almost expected there to be attendants helping wash over the screens and check the tyres and then remembered I wasn’t watching Disney’s Planes.
A new local event has started near us called Wheels on Wednesday and is held at Spetchley Park Gardens on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. A couple of our members went and reported back that it was a very pleasant way to pass a few hours of an evening and others must have been of a similar mind as the event has already had to move to a bigger space elsewhere in the grounds and more chuck wagons booked to cope with the numbers, hopefully I’ll make it before it stops for the winter…..
There are a few things in the diary now to help make the most of the weather and our cars (I have my fingers crossed as I write this looking at the black clouds overhead) so if you’re looking for something to do why not pop along the The Nightingale on the first Monday of the month and see what we’ve got lined up.
Finally welcome to Sue who joined us on the first Monday of June to see what we were all about, hopefully the raffle prizes didn’t put you off, yes they are always that bad but if they were good we wouldn’t have anything to moan talk about.
